Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)
In this series, Arkham Asylum was written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini and developed by Rocksteady (First release of the Batman Arkham Games). Also, the game takes place entirely on Arkham Island, nicknamed Arkham Asylum, home to Batman’s most notorious enemies. The story goes that Batman must once again stop his archaeologist, the Joker. He threatens to seize control of Akam, imprison Batman along with many of his incarcerated enemies, and detonate hidden bombs throughout Gotham City if anyone else intervenes. While fighting with the Asylum prisoners and trying to restore order, Batman learns that the Joker has many Titans in his possession. Arkham Asylum includes downloadable content (DLC) that adds additional challenges and as a Joker playable character.
Batman: Arkham City (2011)
Batman Arkham City game is the sequel to the Arkham Asylum film and features a prominent character and story written by Paul Dini with Paul Crocker and Sefton Hill. A year after the Arkham refugees, Krida sees Batman imprisoned in Akam, a new super slum based in the dilapidated urban slums of Gotham, set up by former Gotham mayor Quincy Sharp. Batman must uncover the secret behind a malicious scheme codenamed “Protocol 10” while taking advantage of the city’s lawlessness and battling various detainees. Meanwhile, the Joker dies slowly due to the Titan formula’s unstable properties in his blood, and Batman infects his blood to force him to find a cure. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil portray their characters like Batman and The Joker, respectively.
Arkham City is the first game to introduce side missions, focusing on the various evils that Batman must avoid. It also includes DLC, which adds Catwoman as a playable character, with her campaign running alongside the main story. Batman and Catwoman, the challenging Nightwing, and Robin are also portraying as playable characters. Harley Quinn’s Revenge is another DLC, adding the second story, which, after the events of the main story, portrays both Batman and Robin as playable characters. And sees how they try to defeat Harley Quinn in revenge, which the Joker’s gang accepts. Batman: Arkham City (2011) was very popular and gamers liked it so much. It was the first super hit among Batman Arkham games.
Batman: Arkham Origins (2013)
Batman: Arkham Origins is a prelude to the Arkham Asylum events a few years ago. It is the first game in a series that includes multiplayer games enhanced by Splash Damage. The story of a young, less refined, and inexperienced Batman who draws eight of the world’s deadliest assassins to Gotham City on Christmas Day and puts a gift on his head. While Black Mask is trying to bring justice, Batman is hunting down by the police. He is nothing but a dangerous supervisor who has to take advantage of the web of chaos and confront other villains. As a Batman fan, there is no doubt that this game has a very interesting storyline set in Batman Arkham Games.
The story highlights Batman’s career, such as his first encounter with the Joker and his partnership and friendship with James Gordon. Arkham Origins has similar backgrounds to Arkham City – downtown and East Gotham. But the area has not yet been transformed into a super prison as there are several variations to reflect different periods. Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker stood up for Batman and the Joker, respectively. Conroy and Hamil were replacing in the previous two matches. Like its predecessors, the DLC adds additional challenges to the game and plays Swain and Deathstroke. Cold, Cold Heart DLC is adding a new storytelling campaign set on New Year’s Day, a week after the main story events. It depicts Batman’s first encounter with Mr. Fries, taking great inspiration from the Batman: The Animated Series episode “Heart of Ice.”
Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)
Batman: Arkham Knight is the successor to Arkham City and is the most extensive installment. It means to be the last Batman: Arkham game. Rocksteady was redesigning and released on June 23, 2015, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. Nine months after leaving Arkham City, Batman’s most excellent, who forces the game to evacuate Gotham City, sees the return of a villain named Scarecrow, who once attempts to destroy the Dark Knight, who joins several of his villains. Scarecrow is backing by the mysterious Arkham Knight, who has personal revenge against Batman and seems to know all his secrets.
Despite his comrades’ support, Batman’s attempt to stop the villains is made more difficult by a disease caused by the late Joker, which slowly turns him into a Joker. Arkham Knight is located west of Gotham City and east of Gotham and consists of three main islands: Bleake Island, Miyagani Island, and Initiation Island. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil portray their characters like Batman and The Joker, respectively. The game received the highest number of DLC games from every approach in the series, including four side missions centered on Killer Croke, Rage Al Gul, Fries, and Mad Hatter. The mission of directing short stories is set before and after the main story and includes Batgirl, Red Hood, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Robin, and Catwoman playable characters. And also, additional challenges and characters, and both Batmobile.
This game shows the death of Batman, and the Wayne manor’s destruction because of the reveal of Batman’s true identity. We know It’s a plan, but not clear what exactly happened to Bruce & Alfred at the end. Players can experience the Batman Arkham games’ dark tone more than others from this game.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2022)
A Suicide Squad game originally considered a post-credits scene in Batman: Arkham Origins, in which Deathstroke Amanda Waller asks to join the suicide team. Within years of Batman Arkham Knight’s release, there were rumors that the studio was working on a suicide team game, but the development team or a publisher made no official announcement. In De Since the Game sets in “Akamvers,” the thread set in the Batman: Arkham series will continue in the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
December 2016 reveals that Jason Schreier in Kotaku had canceled the title and WB Games Montreal turned their attention to the next Batman game and later revealed Gotham Knights. In return, Rocksteady Studio took over as the game’s leading developer. Rocksteady was rumored to be working on a Superman-themed game, and they later dropped it. The official artwork for the game was unveiled on August 7, 2020, by Rocksteady. The first trailer for the game premiered at the DC fandom.
Collections
Batman: Arkham Bundle (2013)
On September 23, 2013, the Batman: Acom bundle was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the United States, respectively. It includes “Totally Crazy,” “Nocturnal Hunter,” “Crime Alley,” and “Scarecrow Nightmare” challenge maps and the game of the Year edition in Arkham City. All additional content, including multiple DLC packages and the long story “Harley Quinn’s Revenge.”
Batman: Arkham Collection (2013)
On November 22, 2013, this collection was released in Europe for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows. This collection includes a downloadable physical version of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City and Arkham Origins. The PlayStation 3 version includes:
- The Nightfall DLC package for Acom Origins.
- The Year version of Acom Asylum.
- Acom City Windows.
Batman: Return to Arkham (2016)
Batman: Return to Arkham, enhanced by Virtues, features a redesigned version of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City using Unreal Engine 4 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Both games include pre-released downloadable content, enhanced graphics, enhanced models and environments, lighting, effects, and shadow enhancements—this collection was released on October 18, 2016, for mixed reviews. Critics’ improvements in texture and shade were nothing but differing views on graphics and lighting effects. Also, the collection covered 30 frames per second and also criticized for its frame rate issues.
Batman: Arkham Collection (2019)
On September 6, 2019, the Arkham Collection was released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Europe. Primarily, it includes revamped versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City and premium editions of Arkham Knight. The physical version of the collection consists of a disk for the first two games and a digital download code for the third game.

Batman: Gotham Knights (2021)
The game’s story sets to take place some period after Batman’s death. A new criminal underworld has filled the street with black. It demonstrates that there is a rise in crime and lawlessness in the city. Thus, after the death of James Gordon, the town has become corrupted. So Batman’s allies are the only ones to preventing from corruption. And also bringing hope to citizens, discipline in police officers, and fear to criminals. Especially the Bruce Wayne’s family is the only one who left to do justice to Gotham. On the whole, they are Red Hood, Robin, Batgirl, and Nightwing. (Read our full article about Gotham Knights to learn more.) Batman: Gotham Knights is not a sequel for the Batman Arkham games series. It’s like a spin-off but not the same universe. There are many differences.
